Courtney, a proud two-time alumna of The University of Akron, having earned a BA in Political Science and an MAEd in Higher Education Administration, has crafted an impressive trajectory that interweaves her personal experiences with professional expertise, illuminating empowering pathways for others.
Courtney's journey is recognized locally as a ystark! 20 Under 40 recipient and nationally as an outstanding college admission professional, winning the Rising Star Award from the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the New Member Award from the Ohio National Association for College Admission Counseling. As the Founder and Principal of The Cognition Collective, LLC, Courtney is celebrated for her ability to connect with a diverse range of clients, drawing strength from her narrative to guide and inspire. Courtney's extensive experience includes impactful positions at the University of Akron, where she significantly contributed to admissions and student recruitment, particularly multicultural initiatives, earning Zips Who Inspire honors, the Diversity Award, and UA 5 under 35 during her tenure.
Courtney's contributions to education are not limited to her direct interactions with students and educators and her written work as a Phd student in Human Sexuality and Student Trustee at the California Institute of Integral Studies; she has contributed to discussions on various topics, including Racialized Pain in Black Women and "Colorism's Amplification of Sexual Abjection Among Black Women" further evidencing her commitment to educational excellence and inclusivity. Her volunteer work further amplifies her dedication to social justice, serving on boards and committees advocating for diversity and community engagement. Her relentless pursuit of equality and educational excellence has established her as a role model and leader in her field.
My Approach
My approach to facilitation and learning incorporates the principles of embodied cognition (Lakoff). This involves strategies that recognize the interconnectedness of the body and mind and use physical movement, sensory experiences, and interaction with the physical environment as integral parts of learning and development processes.
